Hope springs eternal in the human breast;
Man never is, but always to be blessed:
The soul, uneasy and confined from home,
Rests and expatiates in a life to come.–Alexander Pope, from An Essay on Man
The start of spring always coincides with the opening of a new baseball season. It’s quite appropriate.
After all, isn’t it the virtue of hope that guides every baseball fan in their longing for a World Series championship to conclude the season?
Yesterday I had the opportunity to experience this hope in a new found way by attending the Cincinnati Reds opening day game.
I’m a life-long fan of the Reds, but have never made it to this ceremonious celebration of the city of Cincinnati, spring, and all things baseball. Until yesterday.
With a come-from-behind three run victory, I definitely concur that hope springs eternal for the upcoming baseball season!
