I just found out that one of my oldest friends from high school took his own life after suffering from military induced PTSD for years. I hadn’t spoken to him in ages, even though he would randomly come to mind, and I pride myself as someone great at connecting and staying in touch with friends and loved ones.

I have so many incredible memories of he and I jamming out on guitar, attempting to pick up girls, sneaking beers, setting off fireworks, cruising around listening to music, and just laughing and having fun. Paul Sension was indeed a light to everyone he met.

I know what it’s like to go through hard times. I know what it’s like to wonder if life is even worth living. We all have demons that no one else is aware of and that often don’t feel safe to share.

So friends, please, I implore you, check in on your friends and loved ones, especially those who you’ve lost touch with over the years, and especially those who randomly come to mind. Your thoughtful reach out might just save someone’s life.

Ask the hard questions. Go deep with those you love. Life is short. You never know when someone’s last day might be. Make every day count. Don’t have regrets. Live life full out.
